DCI’s Class #3 of DC Residents Graduate with Skills and Jobs

Washington, DC -- On Friday, February 10, 2017 at 11:00 am, the third class of DCI’s Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Training Program were handed their graduating certificates. After successful completion of 10 weeks of classroom and hands-on training, 11 graduating students, all of whom are DC residents, now have jobs with DCI and Anchor Construction. This is the first time that DCI has partnered with another local construction company on this program – and the outcome was a success!

The training program was initially launched in October of 2015 with a major celebration where the Mayor, Chair of City Council and Congresswoman were in attendance. “With booming development all across our city, we need skilled and qualified people to do this work,” said Mayor Bowser. “As our city grows, I’m focused on ensuring that prosperity and economic opportunity reach all eight wards of the District of Columbia.” The District currently has one of the highest unemployment rates in the region for those youth at risk from 20-24 year-olds, which runs about 12%, compared to the national unemployment rate of 4.8%.

The graduation ceremony was opened by Pedro Alfonso, President and CEO of Dynamic Concepts, who welcomed the audience of graduating students and members of their family. Other special guests who were in attendance and gave remarks included: DC Public Service Commission Chairman Betty Ann Kane and Commissioner Willie Phillips; Ward 7 Council member, Vincent Gray; At-Large Council members Elissa Silverman and Robert White, and DOES Acting Director, Odie Donald, II. Senior executives from the local utility companies were also in attendance to share in the celebration.

The ceremony for the third graduating class was held at DCI’s Washington Training Complex located at 1419 Kenilworth Avenue, NE.
