CDC: Guidelines for Mask Reuse
The recommendations below are taken from the CDC guidelines for reuse of facemasks and are designed to provide practical advice so that facemasks are discarded before they become a significant risk for contact transmission or their functionality is reduced:
Do NOT share facemasks.
Masks should be reused no more than 5 times.
Wear gloves when handling, donning, adjusting, and removing mask.
Place used mask in a clean, breathable container such as a paper bag between uses. Pack or store respirators between uses so that they do not become damaged or deformed.
To minimize potential cross-contamination, store facemasks so that they do not touch each other and the person using the respirator is clearly identified. Storage containers should be disposed of when mask is discarded.
Discard any facemask that is obviously damaged or becomes hard to breathe through.
Discard mask if a person (known positive COVID-19 case, person quarantined due to COVID-19, or person with symptoms of COVID-19) has an extended interaction within 6 feet of the user.
Avoid touching your mouth, nose and eyes and wash hands thoroughly after handling, adjusting or removing mask.
